“I wrote this song after hearing the Gospel where Jesus says that he is the gate, and that all who pass through him will find new life. I began to think about people that had invited me to walk through that door in the past; two people in particular are Lolo and Oti Guardado in El Salvador, who are praxis site coordinators in Santa Clara University’s Casa de la Solidaridad program. The first thing I imagine is their smile and their hugs whenever we meet. Then I imagine their children, still very young and joyous. I imagine Oti’s wisdom in how to be patient and how to find grace in all facets of life.
It’s hard to accept, then, that their life struggles are very real and profound; they live in a town that has a strong gang presence, suffer from illnesses that are worsened by a crippled health care system, and worry constantly about their childrens’ future. Yet they do not dwell in despair. They continue to find hope in their daily living, and are always generous beyond understanding in the sharing of their love.
Whenever I ask how they are, Lolo and Oti always start by saying, ‘We’re here, always going forward; always working toward fuller life.’ To me, Lolo and Oti have passed through Jesus the door, and are profound examples of disciples whose own liberation is bound in the liberation of others.”

lyrics
(Chorus) Let us go through the door
that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us turn to God the shepherd;
let us be shepherds in our lives.
May we find hope in the risen Lord;
may we be hope for those who despair.
The love of God calls us to be
the light of hope and life.
Chorus
May we find strength in the fullness of God;
may we be strength for the weary and tired.
The love of God calls us to be
the light of hope and life.
Chorus
May we find comfort in God’s endless embrace;
may we be comfort for those aching with grief.
The love of God calls us to be
the light of hope and life.
Chorus
May we find healing in the touch of God;
may we be healers for our wounded world.
The love of God calls us to be
the light of hope and life.
Chorus
May God’s presence fill our hearts with hope;
may we be present to those in need.
The love of God calls us to be
the light of hope and life.
The love of God calls us to be
the light of hope and life.
Chorus
May we find joy in the promise of God;
may we be joy by living the Word.
The love of God calls us to be
the light of hope and life.
