“This song is about the joy that can be found by living in community, and the hope of the resurrection. In one of Oscar Romero’s last public homilies, he said, ‘If they kill me, I will rise again in the Salvadoran people.’ These words moved me to reflect on how I witnessed his spirit, and the hope of the resurrection, present in the Salvadorans with whom I interacted. I realized that the answer was complex; to me, every memory of happiness was paired with some sort of unfortunate reality--a harsh sadness that loomed in the background.
This dichotomy was present when playing with a young, joyous Salvadoran girl with appendicitis, oblivious to the fact that her father was in jail because of gang activity, and that her mother had been killed by a rival gang out of revenge. It was present when thinking about Cantón el Cedro’s faithful cook, Concha, whose grandson was killed by a stray bullet during a gunfight, and the fierce way she hugged me when I offered sympathy. It was present when hearing a twenty-three year old talk about how his father drowned after he had been drinking, and that his life was now devoted to helping his mother maintain their farm.
Yet with the injustice, the imbalance, and the constant loss that I observed on an almost daily basis, there persisted a profound sense of hope, a collage of experiences and generosity that seemed to surge through the darkness and burst forth. To me, this was a part of Romero’s resurrection--a revelation of seeing Christ in one another by offering peace and camaraderie in whatever ways we can.”

lyrics
(Chorus): Alleluia, praise to the savior;
Jesus Christ the Lord.
Aleluya, resucitó nuestro salvador.
Christ was revealed to those
who feared when he offered peace.
His holy love endures forever.
Sin holds us no more; we are freed
by the risen Lord.
Chorus
Benditos son los que creen sin ver,
que aman como el Señor.
Recibirán el espíritu santo para
alzar al pueblo y ofrecer consuelo.
Chorus
“Peace, peace, peace be with you.”
The spirit calls us to new life.
Our love will not end in words or
gestures;
Live in the justice of God
proclaiming, “Alleluia!”
Chorus
Ven y alégrate con los milagros
de Dios.
Por su amor, Cristo nos toca
ser sembradores de la paz;
cualquier con su cada capacidad.
